Why I want to go to College ?
There are many reasons why I want to go to College. I want to improve my life and have
better access to opportunities for my future and my family’s future. I want my family, and especially my little brother, to be proud of me; he looks up to me and I want to give him a great example of
what can be achieved with hard work and determination.
As a female Hispanic minority many people tend to believe that as soon as “we” turn fourteen “we” get pregnant. What I mean by “we ” is all teenage minorities. I face a lot of stereotypes in my daily life and I believe that with hard work I can change the way people look at teenage minorities. I have already proven some of those stereotypes wrong and I am thankful to God, my family and friends for all the support they’ve given me.
As a high school senior, I have experienced many things over the past four years. Like many teens that attend high school, I have had challenges to deal with. It seems some adults believe that teens do not have difficulties, but we do. We can see the world around us and it can be hard to know what our futures will be like. I started working at a fast food restaurant when I was sixteen, going straight to work after school. While working there, I can see how the managers and assistant managers treat the minority employees.
I see people who are my grandparent’s age, working more than fifteen hours a day, and still only getting paid minimum wage. It makes me realize that I do not want to see myself working in a fast food restaurant in ten or twenty years. I want to help people by becoming a Pediatrician. The reason I want to become a Pediatrician is because I love working with children. I'm planning to use the knowledge and tools that Alcanzando Metas after school program taught me to continue to succeed and to achieve my goals in life.
Ms. Drain I see you are doing a lot. You have a lot of great things going for yourself. Some day I wish to achieve as many as yourself. Thank you for all things you have done for me.
I know that a lot of the things you do come from your heart and I think that's why I didn't mind spending the lunch hour at Wilson High School and my free period with you and the Alcanzando Metas / New Heights program. You are a great person and the world needs many more like yourself. You always said if I ever needed anything that I could come to you.
Thanks If you never stopped me that day in the hallway to join you I probably would have dropped out...Thank you for that...and you helped me in so many other ways.I just can't say thank you enough.
